CASSINGA MASSACRE

Cassinga Massacre was a brutal attack on a Namibian refugee camp by South African forces on May 4, 1978. The camp, located near the town of Cassinga in Angola, was home to thousands of Namibian refugees who had fled their homeland seeking safety from the conflict with South Africa. The South African Defence Force, with the support of its allies, launched a surprise attack on the camp, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of people, mostly women and children.

The Cassinga Massacre had a devastating impact on the Namibian people, both in terms of loss of life and traumatic experiences. Many families were torn apart, and the survivors faced physical and emotional scars that would last a lifetime. The killing was done to the innocent people, the refugees that were unarmed.

The Cassinga Massacre remains a dark chapter in Namibia's history and a stark reminder of the human cost of armed conflict and oppression.
